Bionic Limbs

Bionic limbs are a great example of the ways technology
has in our everyday lives. New advancements
continue to make the limbs more functional and affordable.

OpenBionics
OpenBionics is a company making interesting and affordable bionic arms. What sets them apart is they use 3D printing to make the prosthetics. This arm is a great bridge between two types of cool inventions, 3D printing and electromyography. Electromyography is the technology used to pick up signals from the user's muscles which allows then to open and close individual fingers.
Electric Skin
Electric Skin is a new invention being researched by John Hopkins University. It allows prosthetic users to have a sense of touch by mapping out the patient's nerves on their amputated limb and connecting it to senors that signal the brain different senses of touch such as pain, how hard the user is pressing, and in the future, temperature. All of these advancements help amputees to enjoy feelings they might not have felt in many years.
AI in Prosthetics
Developers are now looking for new ways to improve on the old prosthetic designs by incorporating AI technology. By giving the limb a mind of its own, makes thing's easier for the user who doesn't have to think as hard into what the prosthetic is doing. This new technology also increases agility for the wearer because it behaves closerto a human leg with joints.
